We recently sat down with Double P signee and rising Regional Mexican star, Estevan Plazola, for an exclusive interview. Estevan—best known for his hit collaboration with Peso Pluma, “HOLLYWOOD”—is now promotinghis newest release and hit single, “Costumbres,” a track he both wrote and produced and will soon be performing live.

Estevan is very well known for his hit collaborations, including “COCAINE” with fellow Double P artist and close friend, Los Dareyes De La Sierra. But he’s not just a performer—he’s also a talented and respected songwriter. Estevan has helped create major hits like “Bruce Wayne,” “14-14,” and “MAMI,” all featured on Peso Pluma’s Éxodo album. His songwriting credits also include “BLANCA, ROSITA Y MARIA” and “MR. INTERNATIONAL” for Tito Double P.

As he continues to evolve, Estevan isn’t just focused on growth—he’s determined to shape a legacy that leaves an even bigger impact on the genre than he already has.

Below is a transcription of our interview with Estevan.

Note: This interview has been paraphrased and slightly edited for clarity and readability.

Interviewer: “Tell us about your new track ‘Costumbres’ dropping July 3rd — what inspired it and what can fans expect from this release?”

Estevan: My new track Costumbres comes out July 3rd. It’s a song that is a result of me experimenting, about me trying to evolve the genre in my own way and see if I can throw rap and English in it. What inspired me is artists like Young Dolph and my other idols, and the influence of American hip hop and rock artists. You'll hear some rock influence in there—like sounds from the Red Hot Chili Peppers—and some sounds from rappers like Young Dolph. You'll hear about life, like a música mexicana song about Mexico and a song about experiences and a character. I don't want you to think the song was written by me about me. I want you to hear the song and think about you and your story.

Interviewer: “You’ve been breaking boundaries in música mexicana—how would you describe your sound and how it’s evolving right now?”

I've been told that I'm breaking rules in música mexicana, and I feel like it is intentional. I was born with all the sounds sounding the same, and that’s why I listen to so many genres—because if you just listen to one genre, all the songs begin to sound the same. So my way of pushing the boundary is to never have one song sound like my other song while keeping the essence of Estevan Plazola. I want you to hear a song and be able to know it’s an Estevan Plazola song. That’s why I try to throw in electric guitars, English bars, and English ad-libs, because that’s my way of pushing the boundary. I want to continue to incorporate guitars, violins, and even the flute.

Interviewer: “You’re with Double P Records, what’s it like being part of that powerhouse team?”

Estevan: It feels like you need to pinch me because it's such a blessing being here. At Double P, we have amazing people that believe in God, and they don't like to see their artists doing bad. They want to lift us and have a healthy lifestyle. They teach us, and I've learned a lot about loyalty, discipline, and focus. We even have an amazing PR team, management team, and A&R team. Every division is not just one person—it’s a bunch of teams—and that’s taught me a lot about being a team player in this industry. Because before, when I was coming up, I was an independent artist where I was the label, the artist, the video director, the investor—I was everything. But now, I just simply focus on making music. It allows me to go to the studio and do what I do best, and it allows them to do what they do best.

Interviewer: “Let’s talk about ‘HOLLYWOOD’ with Peso Pluma—it’s been a massive hit. What was it like writing and being part of that track?”

Estevan: Hollywood was my first and my breakout moment. It’s a moment that is still pushing, and she’s a stubborn one that doesn’t want to come off the charts. My life changed before that song even came out because I was already in Peso’s camp. I was already learning how to be an artist. I was there when Peso was doing interviews with his PRs, and to be able to see his studio sessions and be with him in the Escalade... The moment I showed up with him to record on the album with him, that’s when I knew my life had changed. So how has my life changed? Well, here we are—doing a bunch of interviews, studio time later, tomorrow some more interviews, and some photoshoots, meetings, going to the label, and having dinners and lunches with the label manager. My life has changed completely with the Double P label.

Interviewer: “You just made your festival debut at Sueños in Chicago with Deorro—how was that moment for you?”

Estevan: Yes, I recently did the Chicago Sueños Music Festival. I was invited by Mr. Deorro himself. We're actually promoting a song called Música Tierra, which is Deorro featuring myself and Jasiel Nuñez. He invited me to come on stage with him, where we performed Hollywood and our new track. It is an honor, always. I came fresh off the Éxodo tour, and then I went on tour with Tito Double P, and this festival was a completely different experience. Festivals say fans aren't there just for one artist—they're there for good music. The label pushed the boundary for me because Éxodo was my first song that had EDM, and it allowed me to collaborate with the legend himself, Deorro. It was an honor to perform for a different type of crowd and fans. The concerts before were more theatrical—in theaters and arenas—but the festival was crazy because it was hyped and people were just trying to party and go crazy. It was a true honor.

Interviewer: “What can fans expect next from Estevan Plazola?” (Message to your fans)

Estevan: Live your dreams. If someone tells you something can’t be done, use that as your fuel to prove them wrong. I used to work jobs such as car wash, construction, and on a Navy base. People used to laugh at me when I would say I'm saving up money to record music. I want you to look at me as if I were you—because once, I didn’t have all the money, I didn’t have all the cars and jewelry, but I did have a beautiful family who allowed me to live my dreams. This can be you, as long as you don’t give up. It took me 10 years to get my first song on the charts—and it can happen to you too.

Estevan's newest single, "Costumbres" is now available on all streaming platforms!
