On Saturday, May 17, the spirit of transformation and community was on full display at Homeboy Industries as Angelenos came together to celebrate “G” Day. This full-day experience was to tribute Father Greg Boyle, the founder and guiding light of the organization. The event opened with a ceremonial land acknowledgment and traditional dance to honor the Indigenous peoples whose land we stood on, grounding the celebration in respect and cultural awareness. From there, the day unfolded with a Homeboy Threads pop-up, a sleek lowrider showcase, and fresh-brewed coffee and pastries courtesy of Tepito Coffee. The energy was communal, the mood was celebratory, and every detail spoke volumes about a lifetime of compassion and second chances.

At the heart of the event was the Homie to Homie speaker session, where attendees were invited to listen and reflect alongside those impacted by Homeboy’s mission. Chicano artist Fabian Debora delivered a powerful keynote, tying personal experience to creative expression in a way that left the crowd visibly moved. Throughout the day, testimonies and conversations swirled around the courtyard, reminding everyone present of the real, lived change happening through the work of this East LA cornerstone.

“G” Day followed closely behind Father Greg receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom earlier this month and the City of Los Angeles officially recognizing May 19th as Father Greg Boyle Day. The back-to-back honors weren’t just timely—they were deeply deserved. In a city constantly searching for healing and hope, Homeboy Industries.
